Business Inspiration Series – Aodhan MacCathmhaoil
Who inspires you to go on and do greater things in business… and why? As professionals, we’re striving to go that bit further and faster, seeking role models from within and outside the business world to spark motivation. I recently took to SourceBottle to discover exactly what the magic essence is that draws us to these people and how it manages to keep us on track. I wasn’t necessarily looking for big names – just people doing great things that my respondents found pretty amazing.
I’m continuing this series with Aodhan MacCathmhaoil, co-owner of Waster, a low cost waste and recycling services provider to small and medium Australian businesses.
Who is your business role model?
My personal business role model is the marketing expert – Joe Polish. He started in a field a bit like ours – carpet cleaning and worked out exactly how best to market to small customers. This has proved invaluable to us in finding customers as a start up business – I really think learning to sell is the most vital lesson for a startup.
Why are you drawn to this person in particular?
He provides huge amounts of free marketing content to people – with the believe that you have to give value to people before asking for the sale.
What have you learnt from them?
We have essentially based our content and direct response marketing approach around his advice – rather than focusing on brand building or ego based marketing/
How has this helped shape your own business?
This has been vital for growing our business – as if we can not get sales and proof of concept – it really would not matter how good our service and product is.
How have they helped you imagine a bigger future?
Now that we see how marketing can work – we are stepping up our efforts in this area to really grow the business with confidence over the next few years.
